College Basketball: Notre Dame shocks No. 8 Kentucky, 64-50

Defending national champion and eighth-ranked Kentucky rolled into South Bend, Ind., Thursday night and was thoroughly upended, 64-50, by Notre Dame, which recorded its 41st victory in the last 42 home games.

Eric Atkins scored 16 points and Jack Cooley and Jerian Grant each had 13 points for the Fighting Irish (7-1), who opened an 11-point lead by halftime and were never threatened the rest of the way.

Notre Dame outplayed Kentucky (4-2) inside during the first half and held the Wildcats to a season-low 40 percent shooting for the game.

Duke downs Ohio State

For a while on Wednesday night, No. 4 Ohio State looked plenty capable of accomplishing something no non-Atlantic Coast Conference team had done in more than a decade: Beat Duke on its home court.

The 4-1 Buckeyes, however, had a cold spell down the stretch that sent them to a 73-68 loss to the No. 2 Blue Devils (7-0).

Women

Miami 69, Penn State 65 - Morgan Stroman scored 15 points to lead the Hurricanes to an upset over the No. 6 Nittany Lions.

Suriya McGuire's layup with 14 seconds remaining broke a 65-all tie, and Michelle Woods made two free throws with two seconds remaining to secure the win for Miami (5-1). Maggie Lucas led the Lions (5-1) with a game-high 20 points.

Villanova 66, Lehigh 49 - The Wildcats opened the home portion of the season with a resounding win over the Hawks. Villanova got a balanced attack to improve to 5-1. Lehigh fell to 2-4.

Princeton 71, Rutgers 55 - Forward Alex Wheatley scored 17 points off the bench as the host Tigers (4-2) demolished their in-state rivals. The Scarlet Knights (3-2) got 11 points from sophomore Betnijah Laney.
