The 2002-03 Villanova women's basketball team will be honored Saturday to mark the 10th anniversary of the Wildcats' winning the Big East Conference championship by upsetting No. 1 Connecticut, then reaching the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament.
The team, which went 28-6, will be honored at both the men's game against Syracuse at 11 a.m. at the Wells Fargo Center and the women's game against the Orange at 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.
Villanova also will retire the jersey of Trish Juhline, who starred for the Wildcats from 1999 to 2003 and helped them post an 85-41 record, gain three NCAA tournament berths and an Elite Eight appearance, and win a Big East title.
She ranks third all-time at Villanova with 1,659 points and owns the school record for career three-point shots made with 275.
Kudos for Greene. Penn State senior Nikki Greene, a onetime freshman of the week, was named Big Ten player of the week Tuesday for the first time in her career. Teammate Maggie Lucas (Germantown Academy) has been honored twice this season.
