Myles Nash has a problem that most of us would love to have - he can't seem to gain weight.

The Rutgers football recruit from two-time South Jersey football champion Timber Creek was a fierce pass-rusher at defensive end and linebacker for the Chargers.

The one thing Nash would like to do is put some bulk on his 6-foot-5, 205-pound frame.

"I'd like to be 225 when I begin for Rutgers," he said. "It's something I am working on."

Nash has been playing football since he was 5 years old and never had to worry about cutting weight in the midget leagues.

Conversely, he has the type of speed that can chase down running backs, in the 4.6 range.

Nash is such an athletic player that he was used at both quarterback and receiver on offense. Yet it was in rushing the passer where he excelled.

Nash and North Carolina recruit Dajaun Drennon were among the better pair of bookend defensive ends in the state for Timber Creek, which won the South Jersey Group 3 title in 2011 and the South Jersey Group 4 crown in 2012.

Drennon, The Inquirer South Jersey Defensive Player of the Year, had 15 sacks this season and Nash added 14.

Nash made an oral commitment to Rutgers in late June and never wavered in his decision. At Rutgers, Nash will be reunited with another former Timber Creek teammate, all-American linebacker Quanzell Lambert, who redshirted this past season as a freshman.

"It will definitely make it easier being at Rutgers with Quanzell," Nash said. "He is a really good friend."

What won't be so easy is for future Rutgers opponents to keep Nash off their own quarterback.

"Myles has so much range and so much athleticism," Timber Creek coach Rob Hinson said. "He is very versatile, can play multiple positions and absolutely loves football."

He also has one of the quickest first steps around.

Now the only weighty issue regarding Nash is putting on some pounds. He says he is going in with the mind-set of trying to contribute immediately at Rutgers and one of the factors will be whether he can add some bulk to his lean frame.
