Sports in Brief: Delaware's Elena Delle Donne taken 2d in WNBA draft

The Chicago Sky made Delaware forward Elena Delle Donne the No. 2 pick in the WNBA draft Monday night.

The 6-foot-5 Ursuline Academy graduate led the nation in scoring as a junior and was No. 2 as a senior.

The Phoenix Mercury took 6-8 Baylor center Brittney Griner with the top pick. Notre Dame guard Skylar Diggins went third, to the Tulsa Shock.

COLLEGES: The Big Five named Temple's Khalif Wyatt as Big Five men's basketball player of the year, La Salle's John Giannini as coach of the year, and Villanova's Ryan Arcidiacono as freshman of the year. The award winners will be honored at an April 29 banquet.

Joining Wyatt on the first team are La Salle's Ramon Galloway and Tyreek Duren, Villanova's JayVaughn Pinkston, and St. Joseph's Ronald Roberts. On the second team are 'Nova's Arcidiacono and Mouphtaou Yarou, St. Joseph's Carl Jones and Langston Galloway, and Temple's Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson.

Kentucky forward Nerlens Noel will enter the NBA draft as he continues recovering from surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The 6-foot-10 freshman is projected to be a lottery pick despite suffering the injury on Feb. 12. He led the nation with 4.4 blocked shots per game, and was the Southeastern Conference defensive player of the year.

All-American Otto Porter Jr. is leaving Georgetown after his sophomore season to enter the draft. Porter finished second in voting behind Michigan's Trey Burke for the Associated Press player-of-the-year award.

Also entering the draft: Maryland 7-1 sophomore center Alex Len and Georgia sophomore guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

Florida International hired Anthony Evans as men's basketball coach to replace Richard Pitino, who was hired by Minnesota. Evans has been at Norfolk State for six seasons.

Associate head coach Robert Jones will serve as Norfolk State's interim coach next season.

Temple freshman Brandon Matthews and sophomore Matt Teesdale shared medalist honors, carding 4-under-par scores of 209 for three rounds to lead the Owls to a second-place finish in the 14-team Princeton Invitational men's golf tournament Sunday.

Al Bellamy, who spent 12 seasons with the Detroit Lions, was hired as Temple's head athletic trainer.

NFL: The Kansas City Chiefs signed former Eagles linebacker Akeem Jordan, who will be reunited with coach Andy Reid.
