Davidson unanimously voted into Atlantic Ten

Davidson is the newest member of the Atlantic Ten Conference. The A-10 council of presidents unanimously voted Wednesday to accept the Wildcats' application for membership. The current Southern Conference member will formally join the A-10 on July 1, 2014, and begin competing in its new league during the 2014-15 academic year.

Davidson's move to the conference is no surprise. The Inquirer reported last month that the A-10 wanted the Wildcats for 2014.

"This is very positive," said St. Joseph's athletic director Don DiJulia. He said Davidson "is a terrific, terrific, highly respected national university, [with] great people in athletics. It has great success despite the smaller-sized college that it is. And we are really fortunate to have them associated with us and us with them."

The conference has already added George Mason to give it 13 members for 2013-14. Temple, Charlotte, Butler, and Xavier will all leave the conference in July. The Owls will join the American Athletic Conference for all sports. Charlotte is going to Conference USA, while Butler and Xavier will join the new Big East.

The A-10's holdover members are La Salle, St. Joseph's, Dayton, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure, Duquesne, Fordham, Richmond, St. Louis, Virginia Commonwealth, and George Washington.
