Local baseball teams lose tournament openers

The fifth-seeded Knights (29-14) will face No. 8 Moravian (24-18) in a tournament elimination game Thursday morning. Moravian lost to top-seeded Ithaca, 11-2, on Wednesday.

Buddy Elgin scored on a Rams error in the top of the sixth. In the eighth, Bill Pace (Cardinal O'Hara) doubled, Matt Sheneman singled, and Andrew Snow (Penncrest) drove in Pace with a pinch-hit single.

Amherst 10, Rowan 8 - The third-seeded Profs (32-13) lost to the sixth-seeded Lord Jeffs (26-11) in another regional game in Auburn.

McDaniel 14, Penn State Abington 9 - The visiting Nittany Lions took early leads but couldn't keep pace with the Green Terror (22-15) in an ECAC South tournament game in Westminster, Md.

Bill Parave (Pennsauken), Pat Moran (Cherry Hill West), Michael Corrigan (William Tennent), Mark McCouch (Hatboro-Horsham), Dustin Kology (Father Judge), and Mike Kerns (Archbishop Wood) had multi-hit games for the Nittany Lions, who ended with a 22-22 record.

Women's lacrosse. Lauren Purvis (Hatboro-Horsham), a member of the Penn State women's field hockey and lacrosse teams, will compete for the second time in her junior year at the NCAA Elite 8 level when the lacrosse team travels to Chicago to play Northwestern on Saturday.
