Rutgers-Camden announced Thursday that it has hired Annette Reiter, who played on four state championship teams at Gloucester Catholic, as its women's basketball coach.

Reiter, a 21-year coaching veteran at the college and high school levels, had been the Penn State Abington coach. She spent three seasons as an assistant at Rowan. Her Nittany Lions team posted a 9-16 record a year after going 0-23.

Reiter also starred as a player at Widener.

Baseball. Fifth-seeded Neumann (30-14) ousted No. 8 Moravian, 5-3, in the NCAA Division III regional in Auburn, N.Y.

Erik Klimoff (Coatesville) allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out five in six innings. Russ Gilliam got the win in three innings of relief.

Rowan was eliminated with a 5-2 loss to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The third-seeded Profs finished with a 32-14 record. RPI, seeded seventh, is 29-14.

In the Atlantic Ten, La Salle fell to George Washington, 10-4, in Arlington, Va. Sophomore Mark Williams hit his second career homer, driving in all four runs.

Visiting Rhode Island defeated St. Joseph's, 4-1, in the first game of the final regular-season series.

Track and field. Rutgers-Camden senior Tim VanLiew (Deptford) won the men's javelin by more than 17 feet in the ECAC Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Springfield (Mass).

VanLiew, the defending NCAA Division III javelin champion, launched a throw of 214 feet, 7 inches to defeat Timothy Lorah of Moravian, who was second with a 197-5 effort.
