Jerardi called to U.S. Basketball Writers Hall
Daily News sports writer Dick Jerardi will be inducted into the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Hall of Fame at Final Four.
EVEN IF none of the City Six teams makes it to the 2014 NCAA Final Four, Philadelphia will still have a winner in Arlington, Texas. That is because the Daily News' Dick Jerardi will be inducted that weekend into the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Hall of Fame.
Jerardi has written for the Daily News since 1985, primarily covering college basketball and horse racing. A past president of the USBWA, Jerardi has won numerous awards for his writing in both sports, including national awards from the Associated Press Sports Editors, as well as the past two first-place Keystone Press Awards for sports beat coverage from the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association.
Jerardi becomes the seventh sports writer with significant Philadelphia ties to be selected to the USBWA Hall of Fame, adding to what is a continuous chain from the formation of the Big Five in the early 1950s until today. Jerardi joins Dick Weiss and Tom Cushman of the Daily News, Herb Good and Mel Greenberg of the Inquirer, and Bob Vetrone and Frank Bilovsky of the Evening Bulletin.
