College Basketball: 'Nova's Hilliard to return Wednesday

Senior guard Darrun Hilliard will play in Villanova's Big East Conference opener Wednesday against Butler at the Pavilion, coach Jay Wright said Monday.

Senior guard Darrun Hilliard will play in Villanova's Big East Conference opener Wednesday against Butler at the Pavilion, coach Jay Wright said Monday.

The 6-foot-6 Hilliard, the Wildcats' top scorer with a 12.6-point average, was injured during the overtime of Villanova's 82-77 win over Syracuse on Dec. 20. He sat out last Tuesday's game against NJIT.

The Wildcats (12-0) moved up one spot to No. 6 in this week's AP poll.

Players of the week. Temple's Jesse Morgan is the Big Five men's player of the week. Morgan scored 17 points in an upset of No. 10 Kansas and 15 points in a win against Delaware State.

Villanova's Kavunaa Edwards is the Big Five women's player of the week. She had 13 points, 10 rebounds, and seven blocks in a victory against Temple.

Drexel player out. Dragons forward Rodney Williams will be sidelined four-to-six weeks with a stress fracture in his foot.

Women's games

St. Joe's 61, Cal State Northridge 54

- Kathleen Fitzpatrick's game-high 20 points paced the Hawks (4-8) to a consolation-game win over the Matadors (9-4) in the 22d Hawk Classic at Hagan Arena. St. Joe's (4-8) used a 15-3 run to take control from the Matadors (9-4).

Penn 69, University of Maryland-Baltimore County, 63 - Sophomore Sydney Stipanovich's career-high 29 points and 14 rebounds led the Quakers (5-4) past the Retrievers (5-6) at the Palestra.

Virginia 72, Drexel 66 - Sarah Curran scored 15 points, as the Dragons (6-5) fell to Virginia (10-3) at the Cavalier Classic in Charlottesville, Va.
