Baltimore sack machine commits to Temple

Nik D'Avanzo, a rising senior at Baltimore's Archbishop Curley High School, gave an oral commitment Tuesday to play football at Temple.

The 6-foot-3, 265-pound defensive end becomes the Owls' fifth recruit in the Class of 2013.

"I went there about three weeks ago for a football camp and I did really well. ... I went up there [Tuesday] to see the campus a little bit more. I just loved it," D'Avanzo told the Baltimore Sun. "I love [Temple's] Steve Addazio, the head coach. He's the kind of coach that will get me to the next level."

He finished with 80 tackles and seven sacks for the Friars in 2011. D'Avanzo picked Temple over Hampton, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Monmouth, James Madison and Old Dominion.
