Penn State's Bill O'Brien is the Maxwell Football Club Coach of the Year

Make that one more award for Mr. O'Brien.

The rookie head coach is making out pretty well this offseason.

Bill O'Brien was named Maxwell Football Club's Collegiate Coach of the Year, it was announced Wednesday. The award, voted on by NCAA Bowl Subdivision head coaches, football sports information directors, Maxwell Football Club members and a handful of national media members, will be presented March 1 at the Harrah's Atlantic City Resort.

The other finalists were Notre Dame's Brian Kelly -- whose Fighting Irish were unranked in the preseason but will play for the BCS national title next month -- and Kansas State's Bill Snyder -- whose Wildcats were predicted to finish sixth in the Big 12 but finished with a 11-1 record, conference championship and spot in the Fiesta Bowl.

O'Brien's Nittany Lions are bowl-ineligible. But the 43-year-old led Penn State to an 8-4 finish despite unprecedented NCAA sanctions. A handful of top players -- including 1,000 yard rusher Silas Redd and All Big Ten kicker Anthony Fera -- transferred over the summer and the Lions began the season 0-2.

Also on Wednesday, Kelly was selected as the Associated Press Coach of the Year. He received 25 votes. O'Brien was the runner up with 14 votes.
