Panthers’ D.J. Moore, former Maryland and Imhotep standout, cited for speeding after driving 113 mph
Moore was pulled over after arriving back in North Carolina following a Panthers preseason game.
D.J. Moore, a Philly native picked 24th overall by the Carolina Panthers in this year's NFL draft, might want to lay off the gas pedal.
The former Imhotep Charter standout received a citation from North Carolina's state highway patrol after being pulled over in his 2017 Mercedes around 3 a.m. on Aug. 10. He was driving home from the Charlotte airport after the Panthers returned home from a preseason game at Buffalo.
Moore, who followed up his high school career by playing three seasons at Maryland, was charged with speeding and speeding in a work zone at more than 80 mph, according to the Charlotte Observer. He was cited for going 113 mph in the 65-mph zone.
Panthers coach Ron Rivera told the Observer that the team had already dealt with the situation.
"When it all happened, D.J. came to us right away and explained the situation. He was very remorseful. He understood," Rivera said. "We chastised him obviously. And he's moving on. And it's an opportunity to learn for him and for the other young guys. 'Hey, you have a responsibility to the community.' "
Moore has an Oct. 2 court date.
