Tim Perry Jr. commits to Drexel

WHEN TIM PERRY arrived on the Temple campus in 1984, he was an unheralded recruit from Freehold, N.J. Four years later, he had become one of the great shot-blockers in Big 5 history and the defensive force on the only Owls team that has been ranked No. 1. Perry scored 1,368 points, took 985 rebounds and blocked 392 shots at Temple before being drafted No. 7 overall by the Phoenix Suns.

Tim Perry Jr. was a solid frontcourt player for Cherry Hill East the last few seasons, but was not getting a lot of Division I recruiting interest. He decided to spend a post-graduate year at The Phelps School in Malvern. Now, after verbally committing to Drexel, the 6-10, 220-pound Perry will be playing college basketball in the same city as his father and just up 33rd Street from his high school teammate, Penn sophomore point guard Jake Silpe.

According to his coach, Brian Shanahan, Perry is averaging 10 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks per game.

"Tim will do well for Drexel, because he is a self-motivated big kid who has something to prove every time he is on the floor," Shanahan wrote in an email. "I think in a few years people in the city and CAA will be impressed."
