La Salle starts Atlantic 10 Tournament play today

La Salle's baseball team will open play in the Atlantic 10 Tournament today (3:30) at Campbell's Field in Camden. This is the second consecutive season the Explorers qualified for the double-elimination tourney. La Salle, the sixth seed, will play third-seeded Dayton. The teams did not meet during the regular season. The winner will play No. 2 seed Rhode Island tomorrow at 3:30. Xavier, the fourth seed, will play No. 5 Richmond today at noon, with the winner meeting top-seeded Charlotte tomorrow.

La Salle is 27-24 overall and 13-11 in the conference. Senior Kevin Fuqua (6-4, 2.76 ERA, a second-team All-Atlantic 10 pick) will start for the Explorers.

La Salle closer Pat Christensen was named first-team All-Atlantic 10 after having 13 saves and a 1.24 ERA in 27 appearances. Also, second baseman Jeff Flax was named honorable mention All-Atlantic 10.
