La Salle lands transfer from Memphis

Pookie Powell, a guard from Orlando, Fla., decided to transfer after his minutes dwindled late in his only season at Memphis.

POOKIE POWELL, a 6-1 guard from Orlando, Fla., and a borderline top-100 recruit out of high school, will transfer to La Salle after playing one season at Memphis.

Powell averaged 4.3 points while shooting 37.7 percent overall and 28.8 percent from three-point range last season. He had 72 assists. He had a season-best 18 points against South Carolina Upstate at a time in the season when he was getting significant minutes. His time dwindled later during the American Athletic Conference season. He was a DNP in five of Memphis' final seven games. It was announced he was going to transfer shortly after the season ended.

His destination has now been determined. He will have to sit out the 2015-16 season at La Salle before getting his chance to play the following season.
