LOS ANGELES -- La Salle center Steve Zack, who hasn't played since March 2 against Duquesne due to a left foot sprain, has been cleared to play in Thursday's Sweet 16 game against Wichita State at the Staples Center.

Zack's first activity was riding a stationary bike on Tuesday and Wednesday, he was on the practice floor, working out lightly.

"If he can make a play here and there, can make a difference, it could help us," said La Salle coach John Giannini.

Giannini stressed that much will depends on how Zack feels when he wakes up on Thursday, but as of now he may be able to provide some minutes.

Zack is averaging 6.4 points and 6.4 rebounds in 22.3 minutes.

"I was surprised how it felt," Zack said. "When I went up for the first dunk, it felt good."

Zack said he will be prepared to help the team if he doesn't suffer a setback on Thursday.

"Even if I go for a one to two minute stretch to give Jerrell (Wright) a rest, I will be fine with that," Zack said. "I am not asking for 25 minutes like during the season but one to two minutes, I will take that."
