First-half outburst carries Marist past Penn

A first-half lapse proved costly for the Penn Quakers in a 76-62 loss to Marist on Sunday in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

The Quakers (2-7) held a 15-13 lead, but the Red Foxes scored 10 in a row and 16 of the next 17 after that. Marist (3-9) led by 47-24 at the half.

Khallid Hart paced the hosts with 21 points. Chavaughn Lewis added 14 points, and Adam Kemp and Manny Thomas had 12 each.

Penn's fortunes improved little in the second half. The Quakers got no closer than 14 points as Marist won the rebounding battle, 45-32.

The Quakers had no players in double figures. Tony Hicks had nine points, as did Fran Dougherty (nine rebounds). Darien Nelson-Hicks, Penn's leading rebounder, did not play.
