Terrence Pegula, the East Resources Inc. president/CEO and Penn State alumnus, donated about $90 million to build a rink and fund the programs, according to ESPN.com. A new arena that seats 6,000 to 8,000 is expected to be built near the Bryce Jordan Center.

With the addition of Penn State for the 2012-13 season, the Big Ten could form its own six-team league. Currently, Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State are members of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, with Minnesota and Wisconsin in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. If the Big Ten opts not to form a league, Penn State would be an attractive addition to either. *
