Penn State's star guard asked for the ball with less than a minute left and his team up by one, and he came through in the clutch. His off-balance jumper gave the Nittany Lions (9-6, 2-2 Big Ten) a three-point lead with 18 seconds left, and they held on for a 66-62 win over the Spartans.

Durrell Summers led Michigan State (10-5, 2-1 Big Ten) with 21 points, but shot an air ball on a potential game-tying three from the corner.

Play postponed in Ariz.

Arizona postponed its game against Stanford after Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D., Ariz.) was shot in the head.

"The university feels the game should be delayed with deep respect to the victims and families," Arizona athletic director Greg Byrne said.

The game was rescheduled for Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Georgia 77, Kentucky 70 - Trey Thompkins scored 25 points and the 12-2 Bulldogs stamped themselves as a contender in their SEC opener by beating the visiting No. 10 Wildcats (12-3, 0-1).

Connecticut 82, Texas 81 - Kemba Walker, the nation's top scorer, made a 15-footer with 5 seconds left in overtime to lift the No. 8 Huskies to a win over the No. 12 Longhorns. Connecticut (12-2) ended 12-3 Texas' 27-game home winning streak against nonconference opponents.

West Virginia 65, Georgetown 59 - The visiting Mountaineers (10-4, 2-2) forced 18 turnovers in a win over the No. 13 Hoyas (12-4, 1-3) in a rematch of last year's Big East tournament championship game.

Elsewhere: Kris Joseph scored 17 to lead No. 4 Syracuse (16-0, 3-0 Big East) to a 61-56 victory over Seton Hall (7-9, 1-3) in Newark, N.J. The Orange's last 16-0 start was in 1999-2000, when they won their first 19 games of the season. . . . Alec Burks scored a career-high 36 points and 12-4 Colorado upset ninth-ranked Missouri (14-2), 89-76, in their Big Twelve opener in Boulder.

In the area: Bo Friddell broke a tie score on a fastbreak layup with six seconds remaining to push Haverford (7-5, 4-2) to a 67-65 Centennial Conference victory over visiting Dickinson (6-7, 4-2). Sam Permutt registered his fifth double-double of the season for the Fords. . . . Jay Kober's 15 points weren't enough to keep Swarthmore (4-8, 1-4 CC) in the game against the Franklin and Marshall Diplomats (10-2, 5-0), who negotiated an 85-46 victory in Lancaster.

DeSales (9-4, 1-2 Freedom Conference) escaped with a 65-62 road win over Eastern (8-3, 2-1). . . . Widener (8-5, 3-0 Commonwealth Conference) held on for a 75-74 victory at Lycoming (10-4, 0-3). . . . In Doylestown, all five Delaware Valley (6-5, 3-0 FC) starters scored in double figures in a 79-69 win over Misericordia (8-6, 1-2). . . . Maron Brown had 24 points and 12 rebounds to lead host Slippery Rock past Bloomsburg, 75-58.

Philadelphia University got 23 points from Jim Connolly and knocked off host Felician, 77-73. . . . Rutgers-Newark came south to beat Rutgers-Camden, 61-55. . . . Chestnut Hill (2-9, 0-4 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference) fell at home to 8-4 Bloomfield. . . . Ursinus' Matt Hilton hit five threes as the Bears (5-8, 2-4 Centennial) jumped back into league play with a 70-42 win at Johns Hopkins (3-9, 1-4).

William Paterson defeated Rowan, 58-55 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game in Wayne, N.J. . . . 7-4 Kutztown defeated 6-4 host California (Pa.), 72-66. . . . Adewale Adefemi and Tyrone Mann-Barnes had 21 points each to help the University of the Sciences (6-4, 2-2 CACC) beat visiting Nyack (2-10, 0-4), 83-66. . . . Lance McDowell scored a game-high 21 points, including 17 in the first half, to lead host West Chester (8-3) to a 78-64 victory over visiting Edinboro (8-5).

Five Wolves put up double figures in 9-2 Cheyney's 85-66 home victory over Gannon (7-3). . . . 9-4 Lebanon Valley's Grant Becker snagged 12 rebounds in a 69-55 win over 4-8 Arcadia in Glenside. . . . 1-8 Lincoln fell in Salisbury, N.C., to 5-3 Livingstone, 82-60.
