Penn State adds two LB commits to 2016 class
Philadelphia's Shaka Toney and Maryland native Cam Brown orally committed to the Nittany Lions, becoming the first and second LB recruits in the 2016 class.
While in State College for a recruiting event, four-star linebacker Cameron Brown and Imhotep Charter's Shaka Toney, a three-star linebacker and defensive end, announced oral commitments to Penn State's 2016 class. The two were on campus Saturday for Lasch Bash, a barbecue social for recruits.
Toney, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound Philadelphia native, announced his commitment late Saturday afternoon. A family member posted an Instagram photo of Toney with coach James Franklin.
Toney becomes the 18th commit in Penn State's 2016 class and the fourth from Pennsylvania. He also had offers from UNC, West Virginia, Temple, Pitt, Rutgers, and Duke.
"It feels like home, and they are committed to my betterment as a player," Toney told 247Sports. "I don't think there is a better place to announce than Penn State."
Toney posted 90 tackles and 17 sacks as a junior defensive end at Imhotep.
Earlier Saturday, Brown, of Potomac, Maryland, became Penn State's first 2016 linebacker commit.
The 6-foot-5, 210-pound prospect chose Penn State over about 20 other schools, including Notre Dame, Indiana, USC, and Michigan State.
Last week, Penn State picked up its first 2017 commitment, four-star quarterback Sean Clifford.
