Saquon Barkley, Mike Gesicki among Penn State players honored by Big Ten

Six Nittany Lions were recognized on the all-Big Ten offensive teams by the coaches and media.

Junior running back Saquon Barkley and senior tight end Mike Gesicki were named Wednesday to the all-Big Ten first team, and four of their offensive teammates also were honored by the conference.

Barkley, who was named a first-team return specialist Tuesday, received first-team honors from the coaches and the media at running back for the second straight season. Barkley rushed for 1,134 yards, caught 47 passes, gained 2,154 all-purpose yards and scored 21 touchdowns.

Gesicki, who hauled in a team-high 51 passes for 501 yards, was named to the first team in the media voting and second team by the coaches. He was a second-team selection last year by both groups.

Quarterback Trace McSorley, a redshirt junior,  made the second team in both the coaches and media balloting. One of his favorite targets, senior DaeSean Hamilton, earned second-team honors from the coaches and third team from the media.

Offensive tackle Ryan Bates,  a redshirt sophomore and a graduate of Archbishop Wood High, was named third-team all-conference by the coaches and media. Another redshirt sophomore, wide receiver Juwan Johnson (Glassboro), received honorable mention recognition from the coaches and media.

Maryland junior wide receiver D.J. Moore (Imhotep Charter) and Wisconsin freshman running back Jonathan Taylor (Salem), were named first-team all-Big Ten by the media and coaches.
