Down by as many as eight in the second half, the Hawks (1-1) fought back behind Shields (Archbishop Carroll), who had a team-high 18 points. The Dragons fell to 1-1.
Trailing by 39-32 with under 11 minutes to go, St. Joseph's took its first lead of the second half on a jumper by Shields with 1:09 remaining.
Drexel responded as Hollie Marshon scored two of her game-high 19 points on a jump shot with 26 seconds to go. Later - following a tipped ball that gave the ball back to the Hawks with less than a second left on the clock - sophomore Natasha Cloud (Cardinal O'Hara) found Shields coming off a pick for the game-winner.
Temple 54, Seton Hall 38 - Shooting better than 56 percent in the second half, the host Owls pushed around the previously unbeaten Pirates to remain perfect at home. Senior Victoria Macaulay led Temple with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Seton Hall, a future Big East rival for the Owls, fell to 2-1.
Villanova 73, Lafayette 34 - The Wildcats had no problems with the host Leopards in the Kirby Sports Center in Easton, Pa. Laura Sweeney led 'Nova with 17 points and six rebounds. Emily Suhey got a three-pointer to start the game and the Leopards never caught up.
Duquesne 51, Delaware 47 - The No. 17 Blue Hens, playing without injured star Elena Delle Donne, lost a close one to the 2-1 Dukes in Pittsburgh. Delaware fell to 1-2. Delle Donne is battling Lyme disease and she is listed as day-to-day.
Rutgers 56, George Washington 52 - In their home opener, the (1-1) Scarlet Knights got by the visiting Colonials, who fell to 1-1. Rutgers was led by M. Oliver, who scored a game-high 20 points and hauled down 10 rebounds.
Penn State 63, Texas A&M 58 - In their first road test of the season, the ninth-ranked Nittany Lions overcame the No. 16 - yet winless - Aggies. The 2-0 Lions were led by senior Alex Bentley, who scored 21 points, and junior Maggie Lucas' 18.
UCLA 86, Oklahoma 80 - Thea Lemberger scored 18 points as the 2-0 Bruins' upset the No. 11 Sooners (1-1) in Norman, Okla.
