N.J. player commits to St. Joe's

WITH TWO PLAYERS on scholarship among its seniors (Tay Jones, Taylor Trevisan), Saint Joseph's recruiting class was never going to be big. At the moment, it is a one-player class. WITH TWO PLAYERS on scholarship among its seniors (Tay Jones, Taylor Trevisan), Saint Joseph's recruiting class was never going to be big. At the moment, it is a one-player class. SJU has announced the signing of 6-6 wing DeAndre Bembry from The Patrick School (Elizabeth, N.J.) for the Class of 2013.

"DeAndre is a winning basketball player," SJU coach Phil Martelli said. "He has multiple skills along with a long list of qualities, as described by his coaches, of being a tremendous teammate and having a great understanding of the game. We're excited about adding DeAndre to the mix of talents and character guys for our team next year."

Bembry, who averaged 18.2 points last season for what was then called St. Patrick's, had narrowed his choices down to Temple and St. Joe's. He committed several weeks ago and signed his Letter of Intent before the early signing period ended last month. SJU announced the signing when it got the letter.
