St. Joseph's men's basketball team has received its second oral commitment out of North Carolina in the last week.

The latest came from James Demery, a highly regarded 6-foot-6 wing player from Northside Christian Academy in Charlotte. Last week, the Hawks received a commitment from Markell Lodge, a 6-7 forward from Prominence Academy near Chapel Hill.

Demery said that during the summer he suffered tendinitis in his knees and was not able to play. Many schools stopped recruiting him, but he appreciated St. Joseph's loyalty.

"It was a tough time and schools were stopping recruiting me and coach [Phil] Martelli stuck by me and supported me and that meant a great deal," Demery said in a telephone interview.

Demery said he is feeling good. He said that South Carolina and Creighton were among the schools he was considering but that St. Joseph's was the only one where he made an official visit.
