St. Joseph's Lamarr Kimble will miss rest of season with foot injury

St. Joseph's guard Lamarr "Fresh" Kimble will undergo surgery after suffering another fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his left foot and will miss the rest of the season.

Kimble, a 6-foot junior guard and team captain, suffered the injury Saturday night in the second half against Toledo in the team's season opener. It was the same bone he fractured last Feb. 11, forcing him to sit out the last seven games of last season.

"I'm very disappointed for Fresh that all of his hard work and dedication from the spring, summer, and fall won't be shown on the court," Hawks coach Phil Martelli said. "His teammates recognize that all must come forward to fill not only the playing gap but the leadership gap as well. I fully expect that Fresh will continue to be a vocal and inspirational leader for this team."

Kimble, who starred at Neumann-Goretti, scored 10 points in 30 minutes against the Rockets, shooting 4 for 11 from the field and 2 for 4 on three-pointers. He averaged 15.5 points and 4.5 assists in 24 games last season. He was named this year to the preseason Atlantic 10 all-conference third team.

The program also said sophomore forward Charlie Brown will have his fractured left wrist re-evaluated next week to determine when he will return to action. Brown suffered the injury last month during a practice.
