Temple men's crew wins two golds in N.J.
The Temple men's rowing team took a pair of gold medals Sunday in the Knecht Cup on Camden County's Cooper River. The Owls won the varsity 8 plus coxswain and the frosh/novice four-plus.

The varsity boat won in 5 minutes, 48 seconds, beating Drexel, St. Joseph's, and La Salle. The crew was coxswain Donald Norris (Father Judge High), stroke Jimmy Barr, Aaron Heyde, Michael Mirabella (Absegami), Brian Reehill (Holy Spirit), Djordje Vilimanovic, Perry Cox, Kevin Nally (Upper Merion), and bow Brandon Joyce (North Catholic).
The frosh/novice crew of cox Matthew Ciarello (Egg Harbor Township), Connor Murphy, Pat Woodruff (Roman Catholic), Josh Kuzo (Concord), and bow Vince DePentino (St. Augustine Prep) won in 6:53.
The Owls' women's team took third in the varsity 8- plus petite final.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE: Caitlin Fifield and Sam Stevensen each fired in seven goals to lead Richmond (8-6, 4-1 Atlantic Ten ) to a 20-16 win over visiting Temple (8-7, 2-3).
Stephany Parcell (Interboro) had four goals for the Owls, while Karly Cohen, Missy Schweitzer (Owen J. Roberts), and Charlotte Swavola (Cheltenham) scored three each. Stephanie Markunas (Ridley) added two.
George Washington (9-5, 3-2 A-10) edged host La Salle (9-5, 2-3). Melanie Sarcinello (Marple Newtown) and Caitlyn Brostrand (Camden Catholic) each had a pair of goals for La Salle. Sarah Phillips (Downingtown West) had three goals for the Colonials.
Towson's Ashleigh Rohrback scored with 29 seconds left to give the Tigers (11-3, 5-0 Colonial Athletic Association) an 11-10 win at Drexel. Amanda Norcini (Conestoga) led Drexel (9-5, 2-3) with three goals.
Morgan Pettit (Northern Burlco) had three goals to lead Slippery Rock (8-4) to a 22-13 win over Shepherd (10-4) in Shepherdstown, W.Va.
BASEBALL: Tony Montalbano ripped a two-run homer to give visiting Charlotte (16-20, 4-8 A-10) a 3-2 win at Temple (13-22, 1-8)
Vince Voiro (Cherry Hill West) went eight innings to raise his record to 5-2 as Penn (15-16, 6-6 Ivy League)outlasted Princeton (16-13, 9-3), by a score of 7-5, in nine innings. The Tigers took the second game, 13-7.
MEN'S GOLF: Temple carded a seven-over 291 on the Springdale Golf Club course to finish ninth in the 14-team Princeton Invitational. Devin Bibeau (70-77-71 - 218) shot an even-par 71 to lead the Owls on Sunday and tied for 14th overall. Yale won the tournament by a stroke over Georgetown, 858-859. Penn finished sixth and St. Joseph's was 13th.
GYMNASTICS: Katie Canning and Kaity Watson scored at the USAG Women's Individual Finals on Saturday in Bridgeport, Conn. Watson took sixth place in the vault with a score of 9.800, which matched her career-best score. Canning tied for eighth in the floor exercise, earning a score of 9.750.
