Temple's wait for football coach prolonged

MOST PEOPLE figured a new Temple head football coach would be getting introduced by the end of this week. But sources have confirmed that's not going to happen.

MOST PEOPLE figured a new Temple head football coach would be getting introduced by the end of this week. But sources have confirmed that's not going to happen.

The new timetable to replace Steve Addazio, who left last Tuesday after just two seasons to go to Boston College, is looking like early next week. Or at least hopefully.

The reason? Well, several people familiar with the situation have indicated it's so incoming president Dr. Neil Theobold, who is still at Indiana and wasn't scheduled to arrive here until early next month, can get involved in the process. Which obviously makes sense. And there's also the matter of getting all those details in place, which sometimes isn't easy.

Now the question becomes who exactly the finalists might be. Matt Rhule, the person many Temple people would like to see get the job, is believed to be among them. He was here for six seasons as an offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator under Al Golden and Addazio before moving last season to the New York Giants to be their assistant line coach. Others who could be in the mix, and nobody seems to know for certain, are former Owl Todd Bowles, the Eagles' defensive coordinator; Mark D'Onofrio, who was the defensive coordinator under Golden before going with him to take the same position at Miami after reportedly turning down the job; and maybe even Notre Dame defensive coordinator Bob Diaco, whose name has also surfaced with the opening at Wisconsin.

As always, keep in mind that in these things it's never a done deal until they're holding a press conference.
