Temple football now could go to one of four bowls in December

In a new wrinkle, the Birmingham Bowl is yet another new possibility for Temple, in addition to St. Petersburg, Boca Raton and Hawaii.

With the bowl announcements coming on Sunday, Temple remains a realistic possibility for four different bowl games according to a source. And that could even change between now and Sunday.

On Sunday, the Inquirer and Daily News reported that Temple was a consideration for these three bowls: the Boca Raton Bowl on Dec. 19; the Bad Boys Mowers Gasparilla Bowl in St. Petersburg, Fla. (Dec. 21); and the Hawaii Bowl on Dec. 24.

A recent development, according to a source, is that Temple is in the mix for the Birmingham Bowl on Dec. 23.

All four bowls have primary affiliations with the American Athletic Conference, of which Temple is a member.

There is a lot of Temple sentiment to play in St. Petersburg, but because the Owls finished 6-6, they don't enjoy the priority they had the previous two years when they headed into their bowl game with 10-3 record. Six AAC teams have a better winning percentage than Temple.

According to the source, Houston and Temple are among the schools from the AAC being considered for Hawaii.

Until the results of this weekend's games are known, Temple will continue to have an uncertain status concerning which bowl the Owls will compete in. Even games not involving AAC teams still impact the bowl schedule and where Temple could possibly land.
