Temple DE Quincy Roche reflects on his big game

Quincy Roche enjoyed a career game, even though it was only the third game of his Temple football career. What is surprising is that Roche says he has had performances like this before at Newtown High in Owings Mills, Maryland.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound redshirt freshman defensive end had eight tackes, four tackles for loss, including three sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in Temple's 29-21 win on Friday over Massachusetts at Lincoln Financial Field.

"I have had games like this but it feels great," Roche said.

In his first two games, Roche had five tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, including one sack. Yet he said he had a feeling this would be a special game.

"I have the support of the seniors and they all have my back and so it is easy to go out there," Roche said.

Other defensive leaders

In addition to Roche, junior safety Delvon Randall had nine tackles and one tackle for loss, sophomore linebacker Sam Franklin added eight tackles for loss and senior defensive end Sharif Finch had three tackles for loss, including two sacks.

Temple entered the game with five sacks and added nine against UMass.

Temple receives another commitment

Kyle Wright a 6-foot, 210-pound running back from Ben Lippen High in Columbia, S.C., made an oral commitment to Temple on Friday. Wright made the announcement on Twitter.

He is a teammate of another Temple commit, quarterback Trad Beatty. That gives Temple 21 commitments for the Class of 2018. Here is the list

When Temple senior Austin Jones kicked a 24-yard field goal on the Owls first possession in Friday's game with Massachusetts, it placed him sixth all-time with 193 points …Temple left guard Jovahn Fair was helped off the field with 7 minutes and 57 seconds left in the first half of Friday's game with Massachusetts. He was replaced by Adrian Sullivan . Coach Geoff Collins had no update on Fair after the game… Ryquell Armstead, who entered the game averaging 2.8 yards per carry rushed for 91 yards on 17 carries (5.4 avg.) Armstead broke a 56-yard run in the first quarter. His longest gain in the first two games was 17 yards.
