Temple's Chapelle Russell out for the season with a knee injury

CINCINNATI, Ohio — For the second straight year, Temple redshirt sophomore linebacker Chapelle Russell has seen his season end with a knee injury. Multiple sources confirm that Russell has a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Last season he suffered a torn right ACL during practice in November. It is not known what knee he injured this time, but it came in last week's 34-26 win over visiting Navy.

Russell worked diligently in his rehab and was back in Temple's lineup for this year's opening game at Notre Dame. He didn't start that game, but then earned a starting assignment the next week with a strong showing after recording five tackles.

Entering Friday's game at Cincinnati, Russell was leading Temple with 70 tackles and was tied for the team lead with two forced fumbles.

Redshirt freshman Isaiah Graham-Mobley of Upper Merion started in place of Russell. Graham-Mobley has seen extensive action and had 19 tackles and two sacks entering the Cincinnati game.

In the first half, Graham-Mobley suffered an undisclosed injury and was replaced by Todd Jones.

Fair misses seventh game 

Coach Geoff Collins expressed optimism that starting guard Jovahn Fair would return to action, but redshirt sophomore missed his seventh straight game with an undisclosed injury.

Fair, a native of Akron and the Owls only player fro the state of Ohio, was hoping to play in front of many friends and family.
