SOPHOMORE running back Jamal Abdur-Rahman, a La Salle High product who also contributes as a receiver and return specialist, will not be playing football for Villanova this season.

According to sources familiar with the situation, he has been disciplined by the university for his part in an off-campus incident in mid-April.

Abdur-Rahman will be allowed to return to school and practice with the team after being suspended for the two summer sessions. Wildcats coach Andy Talley could not be reached for comment.

The 5-9, 175-pound Abdur-Rahman will redshirt and have three seasons of eligibility remaining. In 2011, he carried 38 times for 293 yards (7.7 average) and scored two touchdowns. He also caught 21 passes for 218 yards and a score, and ran back 38 kickoffs for 910 yards (23.9 average).

Playing for a team that finished a disappointing 2-9 in a transitional year, his two best statistical games came in the final two, a win at Massachusetts and a near-upset of Delaware. In those, he accounted for a combined 460 all-purpose yards.
