Former Villanova basketball star Doug West, who was an assistant coach on Jay Wright's staff before leaving the program last year to pursue an opportunity in private business, is returning to the staff in his old job.

West, 44, played at Villanova between 1985 and 1989 and scored 2,037 points, fifth-most in program history. He then went on to the NBA, where he spent 12 seasons with Minnesota and Vancouver. He was hired by Wright in October 2007, replacing another former player, Ed Pinckney, and spent three years on the staff.
