ISAIAH ARMWOOD, who would have been one of five juniors on a seniorless Villanova basketball team, has decided to transfer.

The news came just a few days after the Wildcats returned from a five-game tour of western Europe, where the 6-8 forward started each time and averaged 2.8 points and 4 rebounds.

Last season, Armwood contributed an average of 2.5 points and 3.6 boards in 17.4 minutes for a team that lost its last six games to finish 21-12. He started seven times.

"I love Villanova - the school and the team - but I want to find a program that fits my style of play better," the Baltimore native, who is extremely athletic but needs to improve his offensive skills, said in a statement.

His biggest moment probably came in his third game, when he made a rare three-pointer to beat George Mason at a tournament in Puerto Rico.

"Isaiah is a great young man," said coach Jay Wright. "His hard work and commitment to the values of our program made him a leader on our team. We'll miss him, but the most important thing is his happiness and we support him in his quest to find a new home."

Armwood's departure means Wright will have to get more at that position from fourth-year junior Maurice Sutton, redshirt freshman JayVaugh Pinkston, who sat out last season due to a university suspension, and Markus Kennedy, one of four newcomers on the roster.
