Women's College Basketball: Villanova women topple Temple

Villanova ran its winning streak to eight in a row with a 55-44 win over Temple Friday at the Pavilion. With the victory, Villanova improved to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in Big Five play, while Temple fell to 5-5 and 0-1 in the City Series. Despite a game-high 17-points from Victoria Macaulay, the Owls couldn't overcome an early deficit. Rachel Roberts led 'Nova with 13 points.

Drexel 77, Penn 50 - Drexel senior Hollie Mershon became the 20th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points as she led the Dragons (7-2) to a victory over the 4-4 Quakers at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Mershon finished with her second career double-double, scoring 23 points and pulling down 14 rebounds.

Elsewhere: Four Scarlet Knights scored in double figures, powering Rutgers (8-3) to its largest victory of the season, 72-44, over Stony Brook (7-5) in Piscataway, N.J.

Men

Rutgers 79, Howard 55 - Eli Carter scored 20 points as the Scarlet Knights (8-2) defeated the visiting Bison (3-10). Myles Mack had 15 points and four assists for Rutgers, which is 2-0 under associate head coach David Cox. Cox is filling in for coach Mike Rice, who is suspended without pay for three games due to violation of athletic department policy.
