NFL | Dolphins' Porter accused of hitting Bengals' Jones

Miami Dolphins free-agent signee Joey Porter was accused of punching Cincinnati Bengals offensive lineman Levi Jones after police said the players exchanged trash talk at a casino blackjack table in Las Vegas.

Porter, a 6-foot-3, 250-pound linebacker, left the Pittsburgh Steelers after eight years and signed a five-year, $32 million deal with the Dolphins earlier this month. He was issued a summons on a misdemeanor battery charge after the Sunday altercation that began inside the Palms hotel-casino, Las Vegas Police Officer Martin Wright said yesterday.

"They went outside. In the valet area, one struck the other, causing a small laceration above the eye," Wright said, calling the injury minor.

Porter could face up to a year in jail and up to a $1,000 fine, Wright said, but no court date was immediately available.

Jones, 6-5 and 307 pounds, missed much of last season with a knee injury.

"It seems they go against each other on the field, and here they take it into the public," said Wright, citing a report from a Las Vegas Police lieutenant who said the two players from AFC rivals had a history of on-field trash-talking.

Dolphins coach Cam Cameron said Porter, a three-time Pro Bowl pick, told him about the incident yesterday morning.

Jaguars. Jacksonville safety Gerald Sensabaugh was arrested early yesterday morning in Kingsport, Tenn., and charged with speeding and carrying a firearm without a permit.

Sensabaugh, 23, was pulled over at 12:06 a.m. after an officer spotted his 2006 BMW traveling at 86 m.p.h. in a 55-m.p.h. zone, police said.

When asked if he had any weapons in the car, Sensabaugh told an officer he had a pistol - a loaded 9mm - but did not have a permit to carry it. Sensabaugh was booked into Kingsport City Jail on the charges, both misdemeanors, and was released about 2:30 a.m. after posting a $750 bond.

Patriots. New England signed Eddie Jackson, a free-agent cornerback who spent the last two seasons with Miami and had six tackles in 14 games last year. Terms were not revealed.

Broncos. Quarterback Patrick Ramsey, who was released by the New York Jets two weeks ago after throwing one pass in his only season with the team, signed with Denver. He will likely back up Jay Cutler, who replaced Jake Plummer as the Broncos' starter last season.

The Broncos also released defensive end Courtney Brown, a former Penn State star who missed the 2006 season after having surgery on his left knee. Brown received a contract extension through 2009 about a year ago.

Redskins. District of Columbia Mayor Adrian Fenty said he would meet with Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder to discuss potentially moving the National Football League team back to the capital. The team plays at FedEx Field in Landover, Md.

49ers. Linebacker Colby Bockwoldt, who played mostly on special teams for Tennessee last season, signed with San Francisco.

The 49ers also re-signed defensive end Bryant Young, cornerback Donald Strickland and linebacker Hannibal Navies.

Jets. New York re-signed Anthony Clement, a 6-8, 320-pounder who started every game at right tackle for the Jets last season.

Lions. Detroit signed Shaun McDonald to a two-year deal, reuniting the former St. Louis receiver with former Rams coach and current Detroit offensive coordinator Mike Martz.

Giants. Fullback Vonta Leach signed an offer sheet worth more than $7 million over four years. The blocking back's current team, the Houston Texans, has seven days to match the deal or lose him to New York.

The Giants' starting fullback is Jim Finn, a seven-year veteran out of Penn.
