Eagles Notebook: Lots of camera action for Eagles backup Kolb on sideline

JACKSONVILLE - Fox cameras had a hard time finding, say, where Mike Bell's knees were on that fourth-and-1 spot that Andy Reid challenged, but they had no trouble finding Kevin Kolb.

JACKSONVILLE - Fox cameras had a hard time finding, say, where Mike Bell's knees were on that fourth-and-1 spot that Andy Reid challenged, but they had no trouble finding Kevin Kolb.

The Kolb reaction shot seemed to follow every play Michael Vick made yesterday, and Vick made a bunch of them in a 28-3 victory over the host Jacksonville Jaguars.

"It was tough, but it's not too tough when you win like that," Kolb said after a late Jacksonville first down prevented him from getting in for a mopup series Kolb said he would have welcomed. It would have been his first action since he suffered a concussion in the season opener against Green Bay, and of course, since Andy Reid yanked Kolb from the starting quarterback role a week ago tomorrow.

"I was happy for him, and happy for the team, the way we finished . . . You have to be able to adapt to any situation. This league throws some crazy things at you," Kolb said.

The Jaguars, ranked 29th in NFL defense coming into the game, were horrible. Were there no moments when Kolb thought, "Hey, I could do that"?

"No, I'm happy with the way we played," Kolb said. "It's all about him now, I'm just here for support, and see what I can see."

Kolb confirmed that "I was going to go in there at the end if we got the ball back."

"It's a tough situation for him to be in," DeSean Jackson said afterward. "When you know you're going to be the starter and then to suffer a freak accident [the concussion] . . . His spirits are so up. He's not hanging his head, he's not pouting. Couple of times, coming back to the sideline after we scored a touchdown, he's clapping and pumped up . . . Shows his characteristics as a man."

Line dance

Michael Vick was sacked three times, again under heavy blitzing, but the Eagles' offensive line looked better than it looked last week in Detroit.

Andy Reid said his second-quarter switch of Reggie Wells for Nick Cole at right guard was because of Cole's continuing knee problem, but regardless, the inside pressure the Jaguars were getting seemed to lessen.

"I didn't feel rusty," said Wells, a longtime Cardinals starter who hadn't played since coming to the Eagles just before the season started. "When you're not in there week in and week out, [it's hard to] build some sort of stamina."

Wells did take a holding penalty. But overall, there were no Jason Peters-related whistles, and the running game averaged 5 yards a carry.

"There's a lot of things we still need to get better at," right tackle Winston Justice said.

Birdseed

Michael Vick's 3 straight weeks of passer ratings over 100 represent the first time he has done that in his career . . . A week after starting against the Lions, linebacker Omar Gaither was inactive . . . defensive end Darryl Tapp made the active list for the first time as an Eagle (in place of Antwan Barnes) and produced an early sack . . . Trevor Laws' sack was the first of his career. "This is the way I think I should be playing," said Laws, a second-round pick in 2008 (the first player the Eagles drafted) who had a hard time getting on the field his first two seasons. "[The sack] felt good. Long time coming, man. Definitely a celebration in the Laws household tonight" . . .

Rookie free safety Nate Allen also notched his first sack . . . Sean McDermott confirmed that if Stewart Bradley had gotten hurt, rookie Jamar Chaney would have played the middle . . . Andy Reid said Jorrick Calvin returned three punts (rather than DeSean Jackson or Jeremy Maclin) because of the heat factor . . . linebacker Ernie Sims said his ankle sprain was not a big deal . . . Between them, Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson caught nine passes for 236 yards and three touchdowns . . .

First NFL game for Joique Bell, and first start for Garrett Mills, with the Eagles coming out in a two-tight end set . . . The 51 net Jacksonville passing yards were the lowest total by an Eagles opponent since the Birds allowed 21 on Sept. 23, 2001 at Seattle.
