NFL: Steelers' Harrison gets fined, again
Steelers linebacker James Harrison's hard hits on the field keep getting matched by the NFL's hits to his paycheck. Harrison was fined $20,000 on Thursday for a late hit on Saints quarterback Drew Brees, the third time he has been fined this season for a dangerous tackle.
Steelers linebacker James Harrison's hard hits on the field keep getting matched by the NFL's hits to his paycheck. Harrison was fined $20,000 on Thursday for a late hit on Saints quarterback Drew Brees, the third time he has been fined this season for a dangerous tackle.
The penalties total $100,000, including a $75,000 fine for his Oct. 17 helmet hit that left Browns wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi with a concussion.
"The amount of money is becoming an issue," Harrison said Thursday. "The fines that they issued to me, two of them weren't even called penalties. I don't even know what to say anymore."
Harrison also was fined $5,000 for slamming Titans quarterback Vince Young to the turf on Sept. 19. Neither the Massaquoi nor the Young plays drew penalties.
Sergeant wins Tillman Award. Army Staff Sgt. Patrick Nelson of Dawson, Minn., has won the NFL-Tillman Military Scholar award.
The Pat Tillman Foundation helps veteran and active service members from the U.S. military who wish to start, finish, or further their education, and also aids dependents and survivors of service members. Nelson, a student at Minnesota State, is a former paratrooper with 39 months of combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan while serving nearly seven years of active duty in the Army.
Hasselbeck sidelined. The Seattle Seahawks will play the New York Giants on Sunday without quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, who is sidelined with a concussion.
Seattle coach Pete Carroll made the announcement that Hasselbeck would not be ready to play. Charlie Whitehurst will get his first NFL start against one of the top defenses in the league. Hasselbeck suffered a concussion last week in Seattle's 33-3 loss at Oakland.
McCoy gets another start. The plan was to keep Browns rookie quarterback Colt McCoy on the sideline this season so he could learn for the future. It arrived quickly. McCoy will make his third consecutive start on Sunday when the Browns host the New England Patriots.
Neither Seneca Wallace nor Jake Delhomme have been able to practice this week as they continue to recover from high-ankle sprains.
This will be McCoy's first start at home. So far, he's 1-1 with a loss to the Steelers and a win over the Saints.
Bush has limited practice. Reggie Bush was limited during Saints practice, raising his prospects for getting back in the lineup for the first time since breaking a bone in his right leg in the second game of the season.
Coach Sean Payton says Bush is making progress but still not moving the way he'd like. Bush fractured his fibula Sept. 20 against San Francisco, when he dove on his muffed punt and players piled on top of him.
