Remembering best of White and Brown
PLEASE EXCUSE if this sounds like a commercial, but it's pretty cool. The NFL Network, tonight at 10, will air the premiere broadcast of a fascinating, 60-minute documentary looking at the relationship between former Eagles defensive linemen Reggie White and Jerome Brown.

The Eagles' defense, particularly the 1991 edition, might be the best unit never to win a Super Bowl. White and Brown anchored the team, which lost starting quarterback Randall Cunningham to a season-ending knee injury in the opener. The Eagles played five quarterbacks and still went 10-6. A tiebreaker kept them out of the playoffs.
Former Cowboys QB Troy Aikman used to wonder whether he'd survive games against the Eagles, and former Birds defensive assistant Jeff Fisher poignantly recalls some of Brown's reckless behavior off the field. Brown died in a car crash in 1992. White passed away from a heart arrhythmia in 2004.
Talkin' Baseball *
How is it Atlanta fans couldn't fill Turner Field for such a crucial series? The Ted was about 25 percent empty the first 2 nights.
But Tampa Bay fans were even worse. Tuesday, the Rays drew 22,820 to a Tropicana Field that seats 34,078 - that's 11,258 who did not get to see one of the most clutch tripleplays in history. If the Phillies ever played the Yankees in a crucial September game with a playoff spot on the line, they probably could sell out Lincoln Financial Field. Twice.
* Good lines by Seattle Times baseball writer Larry Stone in his weekly rankings. In listing the Phillies first, Stone sharply observes, "All that talk about [the] Phillies' aces was pure hype; Blanton didn't pan out at all." In ranking the Astros 30th, Stone asks, "Need an underachieving pitcher? There's a Happ for that." Ouch.
* Check out this quote from Brewers rightfielder Corey Hart, talking about when Milwaukee lost to the Phillies in the first round in 2008. "In '08, we were so excited to get there. I don't think we really thought we'd go to the World Series, we were just so excited to make the playoffs," Hart told the AP. "This year, we have a team that feels like . . . we can do some good things when we get there."
