Lions lost on field and at the box office
Owning an NFL franchise is a license to print money. Usually gobs of money. But, according to Forbes Magazine, one of the 32 NFL teams couldn't figure out how to run the printing press.
Owning an NFL franchise is a license to print money. Usually gobs of money.
But, according to Forbes Magazine, one of the 32 NFL teams couldn't figure out how to run the printing press.
Besides being the worst team of the 21st century in terms of record, the Detroit Lions also managed the neat trick of losing money in 2010, the magazine said.
Amazing stat
In his two starts, a win over the Dolphins and a loss to the Lions, Denver quarterback Tim Tebow has been in the shotgun formation an average of 40 times a game. And the Broncos have spread out their offense, using three wide receivers, an average of 50 times a game.
Decisions in Indy
Peyton Manning said Thursday he hopes to return to practice this year and still holds out hope of playing if doctors say he is healed from his Sept. 8 neck surgery.
Manning hasn't played since having surgery to repair a damaged nerve that caused weakness in his throwing arm. It was his third neck procedure in 19 months, which has brought up questions about his future.
The Colts (0-8) must decide whether to opt out of Manning's five-year contract. According to the Associated Press, the contract is one guaranteed year, with four option years.
Just shut up
Former all-pro defensive tackle Warren Sapp thinks Detroit's Ndamukong Suh may need to cool it a bit in the trash-talking department.
Suh was accused of taunting Atlanta's Matt Ryan while the quarterback was injured on the field.
Sapp, now an analyst for Showtime and the NFL Network, thinks Suh should just keep quiet.
"Absolutely shut up," Sapp said Thursday on the Dan Patrick radio show. "We're talking about taking credit for a quarterback that you didn't sack, you didn't take to the ground. His own offensive lineman stepped on him. Remind me, didn't Atlanta win this game?"
