Big Ben shakes off bad ankle

In what might have been the most brutal night of the season for quarterbacks, Ben Roethlisberger was knocked out of Thursday night's game with an ankle injury, limped back in, and led the Steelers to a 14-3 win over Cleveland.

Browns quarterback Colt McCoy also was injured and returned and has been diagnosed with a concussion.

Roethlisberger returned to pass for 178 yards and a TD in the second half.

Roethlisberger's prognosis remained vague a day later. X-rays taken during the game showed his ankle wasn't broken, and underwent an MRI on Friday to get a closer look. The results weren't immediately available.

Lions tight end Brandon Pettigrew has been fined $25,000 by the NFL for abusive conduct toward an official in Sunday's game at New Orleans. . . . Lew Bush, who played linebacker for the Chargers for seven seasons and was part of their lone Super Bowl team in 1994, died Thursday of an apparent heart attack, the Chargers said in a statement. He was 42. . . . Dallas signed safety Gerald Sensabaugh to a five-year contract extension for undisclosed financial terms. . . . Redskins safety LaRon Landry will miss his second straight game Sunday because of a groin injury. . . . Texans receiver Andre Johnson will sit out Sunday's game with a strained left hamstring. . . . Running back James Starks and linebacker Desmond Bishop will not play Sunday the Packers said. . . . The Bears have ruled safety Major Wright out for Sunday's game because of a shoulder injury.
