Eagles Notes: Jeremy Maclin's status is day-to-day

Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin suffered another hip pointer Sunday and is unlikely to practice Wednesday, Eagles coach Andy Reid said. Maclin has not been ruled out for this Sunday's game at Arizona. He suffered a similar injury in the opener against Cleveland but was able to play in Sunday's win against Baltimore.

"I stood here last week and told you it was going to be a struggle, and then he came around," Reid said Monday. "So I'd just tell you it's day-to-day."

Maclin, whose lone catch against Baltimore was a 23-yard touchdown, told reporters after the game that this injury was more serious than the first.

The Eagles remain light at receiver. Reid said that Riley Cooper's broken collarbone is not completely healed and that he will miss a third consecutive game. DeSean Jackson suffered a hamstring spasm on Sunday, but he finished the game. He had been questionable heading in with a hamstring strain.

Jason Avant aggravated a wrist bruise. Rookie Damaris Johnson and Mardy Gilyard are the only healthy receivers on the active roster. The Eagles have three receivers on the practice squad - B.J. Cunningham, Jeremy Ebert, and Marvin McNutt - and could activate one if Maclin's injury sidelines him.

Aside from center Jason Kelce with torn knee ligaments and tackle King Dunlap with a hamstring strain, the Eagles' injured players did not appear to be in jeopardy of missing the Cardinals game.

Safety Colt Anderson hyperextended his right knee, and defensive end Jason Babin had an abdominal strain. Safety Nate Allen had a shoulder bruise, and guard Evan Mathis had a neck bruise.

Cox carries the load

Fletcher Cox played the most snaps of the Eagles' nine defensive linemen on Sunday.

The rookie defensive tackle played 51 of 70 total snaps, three more than defensive end Trent Cole and 14 more than the next defensive tackle, Derek Landri.

Cullen Jenkins and Landri started in the middle, but Cox led all linemen with five tackles - one for a loss.

"He's gotten better every week," Reid said. "He's got a huge challenge this week, but he deserved that opportunity to up his play time. He had about 20 snaps the week before and we just gave him a chance to get a few more reps in there and snaps. I thought he did a good job with it."

Of the defensive ends, Brandon Graham continues to get the fewest number of snaps, behind Cole, Jason Babin (44), Darryl Tapp (22), and Phillip Hunt (15). A week after playing on only four downs, Graham played nine snaps.

He made the most of his time, recording a tackle on a run near the line of scrimmage and forcing quarterback Joe Flacco into making two errant throws.

"It's important that Brandon just continues to keep pushing," Reid said.

Extra points

Reid said that running back Dion Lewis, who was a healthy scratch, did not dress Sunday because rookies Bryce Brown and Chris Polk have earned the right to jump ahead of him on the depth chart. He also noted that Lewis was slowed late in the preseason by a hamstring injury. Brown ran three times for 7 yards and was part of a fumbled handoff with Michael Vick. Polk took five special-teams snaps. . . . Brandon Hughes spelled Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie for six plays at left cornerback. The Eagles were giving the starter a few breathers from covering the speedy Torrey Smith.
