Eagles Notes: Eagles line takes a hit with Todd Herremans injury

As if the ailing and leaky Eagles offensive line needed more bad news, right tackle Todd Herremans suffered a right ankle/foot injury in the second quarter of Monday's 28-13 loss to the Saints in New Orleans.

As if the ailing and leaky Eagles offensive line needed more bad news, right tackle Todd Herremans suffered a right ankle/foot injury in the second quarter of Monday's 28-13 loss to the Saints in New Orleans.

Herremans, who remained on crutches, had an MRI exam Tuesday. On his radio show Tuesday evening, Eagles coach Andy Reid said Herremans will see a foot specialist on Wednesday, and will have a CT scan before any further determination is made.

Herremans was replaced Monday night by Demetress Bell. Herremans is the fourth starting lineman from last season to suffer an injury. The others are tackle Jason Peters, center Jason Kelce, and guard Danny Watkins.

Guard Evan Mathis is the only starter on the offensive line from last year who has not been sidelined.

Reid said Herremans was "still sore."

Monday was the tackle's 103d career game with the Eagles and his 100th start.

Decision time coming

The Eagles have less than three weeks to decide whether Peters will play this season.

Peters was placed on the reserve/non-football injury (NFI) list on Aug. 27 after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon in the offseason.

On Tuesday, the Eagles declared Peters eligible for practice. They had three weeks beginning Tuesday to either activate him or place him on season-ending injured reserve.

Peters, who earned Pro Bowl honors in each of the five previous seasons, suffered his injury while training in Texas on March 27. He underwent surgery on April 3.

Vick still No. 1

In his obligatory comments about the quarterback, Reid said after the game that Michael Vick remains the starter. On Tuesday, the coach reiterated that remark.

"Michael is our starter," Reid said.

Extra points

Defensive tackle Mike Patterson played his first game since undergoing offseason brain surgery. He was in on 15 plays and had one assisted tackle. . . . With 5,519 career rushing yards and 20,007 passing yards, Vick became the first player in the NFL to exceed 20,000 passing yards and 5,000 rushing yards in his career. . . . Vick has a 77.7 passer rating, tied with Carolina's Cam Newton for 28th in the NFL. . . . The Eagles have 11 sacks, or half a sack more than Houston's J.J. Watt, who has 101/2.
