FORMER EAGLES defensive end Hugh Douglas is in the news again, this time for allegedly attacking his girlfriend in a Hartford, Conn., hotel on Sunday morning.

The woman, who was not identified, claims she received bruises on her neck and a bump on the head from the altercation. Douglas attributes the marks to rough sex.

It was only last month that Douglas was fired by ESPN after calling his "Numbers Never Lie" co-host Michael Smith the "N-word."

Now comes word that the 42-year-old Douglas was arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend of 8 months.

He was released on $50,000 bail and appeared in Hartford Superior Court on Tuesday. His next court date is Oct. 21 to face charges of third-degree assault and second-degree strangulation.

According to Hartford police, Douglas' girlfriend had a bump on the back of her head and red marks on the sides of her neck.

The girlfriend claims the marks were caused when Douglas grabbed her in a hotel hallway and forced her back to their room. Douglas told police they were caused by rough sex although, according to the police report, he "could not explain how she got the bump on her head."

According to the Hartford Courant, the girlfriend approached a hotel desk clerk after the alleged incident and asked if there were any cameras on the premises. When told no, the clerk said the woman appeared upset and walked away. The clerk, noticing bruises on her neck, called police.

The Courant reported that the girlfriend first told police she didn't want to pursue the matter because it was only "a little fight but nothing serious."

But later, at Hartford Hospital, she told an officer that she and Douglas had an argument and that he had grabbed her by the neck and slammed her head against the hallway wall. She said she blacked out because she could not breathe.

Douglas could not be reached for comment last night.
