LANDOVER, Md. - Eagles left tackle Jason Peters was one of four starters who left Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Washington Redskins with an injury and did not return. The other players were cornerback Byron Maxwell, linebacker Mychal Kendricks, and defensive lineman Brandon Bair.

Peters reaggravated a quadriceps injury, which first happened late in last week's win over the New York Jets. He was limited at practice leading up to the game and was questionable to play.

"I didn't want to be out there limping around, so I just took myself out just to not hurt the team," Peters said. "I'll be OK. Nothing long-term."

With Peters out of the lineup, the Eagles moved Matt Tobin from right guard to left tackle. They played Dennis Kelly at left tackle.

Bair left the game with a groin injury. The Eagles were already playing with starter Cedric Thornton and reserve Taylor Hart, so Bair's injury further hindered the defensive line. The Eagles used Bennie Logan at defensive end more than usual and played Beau Allen at nose tackle.

Kendricks, who missed last week's game with a hamstring injury, did not make it past the opening drive. He was questionable for Sunday, but he started. Coach Chip Kelly did not know whether the injury was related to the one that kept him out last week. Jordan Hicks and DeMeco Ryans handled the inside linebacker duties.

Maxwell left the game on the first drive with a quadriceps injury. The Eagles used Eric Rowe as an outside cornerback in Maxwell's place.

For much of the game, the Eagles played without four starters. They also had a brief spell without Fletcher Cox, who cramped up and needed to be evaluated.

"Obviously when you lose players, it has an effect on you," Kelly said. "But we don't make excuses."

Quarterback Sam Bradford said he had a "slight sprain" in his right ankle in the second half, but the training staff taped the ankle and he did not miss any plays. Right tackle Lane Johnson had a left knee injury, but he stayed in the game, too.

Marcus Smith inactive

Linebacker Marcus Smith was a healthy scratch for the Eagles. Smith was inactive for the third time in four games even though the Eagles used Vinny Curry on the defensive line and not at outside linebacker.

Safety Chris Maragos did not play with a quadriceps injury. The other inactives were Thornton, Hart, quarterback Thad Lewis, offensive lineman Julian Vandervelde, and linebacker Kiko Alonso (knee).
