Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Joe "Bud" Sutton passes away at 88

Joe "Bud" Sutton, a member of the Greatest Generation who played three seasons for the Eagles, died on Monday at age 88.

Sutton led Northeast Catholic to a city championship in 1942 and served with the Army's 131st battalion in World War II following high school. He played at Temple after the war and began his NFL career as a fullback with Buffalo in 1949.

He joined the Eagles the following season and made a successful switch to defensive back. Sutton set a team record with eight interceptions in 1950 and had 13 in his 30 games with the Birds.

Sutton, whose given first name is Joe, is survived by his wife, Patricia, and their three children; son, Jack and daughters, Cheryl and Nancy.
