Patterson Will Be Paid; Vick Ready to Go

Nobody knows if three ghosts visited Howie Roseman Wednesday night, but Thursday morning, the Eagles' general manager called agent Peter Schaffer, looking for a way to fix the problems created when the Eagles placed Patterson on the nonfootball injury/illness list, and triggered a clause in his contract that would take at least $125,000 out of Patterson's remaining 2012 salary.

They ended up revising the contract, taking out the clause, and resubmitting it to the NFL. End result: Patterson keeps his money.

"That's where the strength of a longstanding relationship comes in," Schaffer said Thursday afternoon. "This grew out of Jeffrey (Lurie) and Howie's desire to take care of Mike Patterson."

Patterson, 29, underwent offseason brain surgery, and the Eagles put a clause in his contract that would get some of their money back if the condition left him unable to play, and on the NFI list. They recouped about $1 million from Patterson when he was unable to play until midseason. But Schaffer --- and quite a few Eagles fans -- felt contracting viral pneumonia in the final month of the season wasn't something you should dock someone's pay over.

Ultimately, the Eagles came to see it that way as well.

Meanwhile, the Eagles confirmed a report that Michael Vick has been cleared by an independent neurologist and can play next week, when the Eagles host the Redskins. Of course, Nick Foles is now the designated starter.

The Eagles said there is no word on LeSean McCoy, who also is awaiting concussion clearance.

Inactives tonight for the Eagles, in addition to Vick and McCoy, are Brent Celek, Greg Salas, Chris Polk, Kurt Coleman and Matt Kopa.
