Turnovers a painful subject for Marty

Even riding a two-game win streak, the Eagles' NFL-high total of 35 turnovers remains a sore subject with offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg.

When a reporter led into the subject by mentioning the rare but ill-timed LeSean McCoy fumble last Sunday against the Jets, Mornhinweg winced and exclaimed "Ah! Geez ... I'll go to my grave with this one, this year. We're going to continue to work."

Mornhinweg said the Eagles' defense was able to overcome the turnovers against the Jets.

*Mornhinweg said when the Eagles have all their weapons healthy, it's harder to shut down LeSean McCoy, and the overall group.

*Mornhinweg said Jeremy Maclin (hamstring), Michael Vick (ribs) and Todd Herremans (ankle) were impressive playing through pain. "They were hurting," Mornhinweg said. "They were hurting big time in the last several weeks and gutted it out. Great sacrifice by the fellows. And then Jeremy goes and blocks like a madman."

Asked what makes Maclin such a good blocker, Mornhinweg said: "Guts."

*Defensive coordinator Juan Castillo said finding specific niches for each of his young linebackers enabled them to focus on a smaller part of the defense, rather than having to be instinctive in every aspect of it.

*Castillo talked of how hard safety Kurt Coleman has worked to overcome a rough early season. He mentioned that Coleman leads a film-study group that meets on Saturday mornings.

"it's a privilege to be doing what we're doing," said Castillo, who added that he thinks Coleman realized that during a brief benching. "He's really come back, he studies a lot," Castillo said.

*Castillo said that overall, his defenders are growing more confident in one another. "They're getting to know what the other one does without having to look," he said.
