Mayock's take: Cornerbacks

Editor's note: NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock will break down players available at each position for the Daily News before the NFL draft. A Haverford School product, Mayock played at Boston College and was a defensive end in the NFL nefore beginning his broadcast career.

CORNERBACKS

THE BEST

Darrelle Revis

School: Pittsburgh

Size: 5-11 1/2, 204

40 time: 4.38

Projected round: 1

Quote: "They played a lot of Cover-2 at Pitt, so when you watch him on tape, you get a chance to see his zone awareness. You get to see him in press coverage. He's a really good zone defender, but also can play man. He's not afraid to get up and play press [coverage]. He has great feet, great change-of-direction ability. And what I really like is he's tough and he's physical and he'll tackle people. I think he's a better all-around player than [Michigan's Leon] Hall and has a better upside.'' THE RISER

Eric Wright

School: UNLV

Size: 5-10 1/2, 192

40 time: 4.36

Projected round: 1-2

Quote: "Wright's got first-round ability. When he showed up at the combine, people's jaws dropped when they watched him go through the positional drills. He's so smooth and quick. If he had a clean off-the-field record, we'd be talking about him as the No. 1 corner.''

THE SLEEPER

Usama Young

School: Kent State

Size: 5-11, 196

40 time: 4.39

Projected round: 4

Quote: "He wasn't invited to the combine and I'm not sure why. He was a highly productive, 4-year starter in a small conference. He's a good tackler. He's got nice feet and change-of-direction ability. What I like about him is he could play safety as well as corner because he's tough enough and he'll tackle people. And he'll immediately become a core special-teams player.''
