Reid 'em and weep: Andy is 8-3 against his former assistants
Doug Pederson is the latest former assistant to face Andy Reid as a head coach. Big Red has thumped his proteges.

Andy Reid has seen nine of his former assistants go on to become NFL head coaches, and for the most part, he has owned them in head-to-head meetings.
In 11 games against Reid, the disciples are just 3-8. Eagles coach Doug Pederson this week will try for win No. 4 for the assistants.
"For me, I can't get caught up in that record," Pederson said on Wednesday. "I can't get caught up with who's on the other sideline (and) things of that nature."
Though Reid did not win a Super Bowl here, an indication of the success he had here is that all nine of these coaches were with Big Red at some point during his tenure in Philadelphia (1999-2012).
Here's a look:
Todd Bowles (0-1 against Andy). Served as a defensive backs coach for the Eagles in 2012, Reid's final season in Philadelphia. Bowles is in his third season as Jets head coach and, after going 5-11 in 2016, he'll be lucky to win three games in 2017. Bowles lost his only meeting with his old boss, 24-3 last season. They are scheduled to play in Week 13 in New York.
Brad Childress (0-2). Was Reid's first quarterbacks coach (1999-2002) before taking over as offensive coordinator ('03-05). Highlight was helping team get to Super Bowl 39. Lowlight was often being the object of Terrell Owens' scorn. Childress was the Vikings' head coach from 2006-10, posting a 39-35 regular-season record. He lost both meetings with Reid, including a wild-card game in Minnesota in the 2008 season. Childress is an assistant head coach for the Chiefs.
Leslie Frazier (1-0). Was Reid's first defensive backs coach (1999-2002). He succeeded Childress as Minnesota's head coach late in 2010 and went 21-32-1 until he was fired in 2013. Posted the biggest improvement in Vikes history when he went from 3-13 in 2011 to 10-6 in 2012. Frazier's win over Reid and the Eagles on a Tuesday night in 2010 — when Joe Webb filled in for injured Brett Favre — cost the Birds a chance at a first-round bye. Frazier is the defensive coordinator for Buffalo.
John Harbaugh (1-2). Was a terrific special teams coach for the Eagles from 1998-2006 and the defensive backs coach in 2007. He's been the Ravens head coach since 2008, winning the Super Bowl after the 2012 season. He is 1-2 against Reid.
Sean McDermott (0-0). Worked his way up from the scouting department to defensive coordinator in his time with the Eagles (1998-2010). Was Carolina's defensive coordinator from 2011-16 and was hired as Bills head coach in January, McDermott beat Bowles and the Jets in Week 1 to win his debut. He and the Bills play at Kansas City in Week 12.
Doug Pederson (0-0). Was Reid's first starting quarterback, going 2-7 until the coach turned to rookie Donovan McNabb. Pederson came back to the Eagles and worked as an assistant from 2009-13. He was Reid's offensive coordinator in Kansas City from 2013-15 and is in his second season as Eagles coach. This will be his first game against Big Red.
Ron Rivera (1-1). The second-most successful Reid disciple, Rivera was the Eagles linebackers coach from 1999-2003. He has been Carolina's head coach since 2011, going 54-42-1 with three postseason bids and a berth in the Super Bowl after the 2015 season. The Panthers were 17-1 overall before losing to Denver in the Supe. Rivera is 1-1 against Reid; he beat the Eagles in 2012, but lost to Reid's Chiefs last season.
Pat Shurmur (0-1). Was an Eagles offensive assistant from 1999-2008. He was head coach in Cleveland, where careers generally go to die, and went 4-12 and 5-11 in 2011-12. He also won a game in 2015 as an interim head coach after Chip Kelly was fired by the Eagles. Shurmur lost his only meeting with Reid, the 2012 opener when Michael Vick — who had thrown four interceptions — tossed a late touchdown pass for a one-point Eagles' victory. Shurmur is currently the Vikings offensive coordinator, where he has reunited with Sam Bradford.
Steve Spagnuolo (0-1). Spags was a defensive assistant under Reid from 1999-2006 before moving on to the Giants. He was the coordinator in 2007 and helped design the game plan that held the Patriots to a season-low in points in New York's stunning 17-14 win in the Super Bowl. Spagnuolo was head coach of the Rams from 2009-11, and went 10-38, including a loss to his old boss in 2011. Spagnuolo went back to being the Giants defensive coordinator last season. New York will play at Lincoln Financial Field in Week 3.
