Eagles-Broncos inactives: Zach Ertz out, Jay Ajayi to play
Ertz was on the field during warm-ups, but the team held him back due to a hamstring injury he suffered Thursday.
Eagles tight end Zach Ertz is out for Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos, a surprising absence after there was confidence on Friday that the team's leading receiver would play after injuring his hamstring in Thursday's practice.
Ertz, who was listed as questionable, was on the field for warm-ups catching passes from quarterback Carson Wentz. Without Ertz, look for Trey Burton to have a bigger role in the receiving game. Brent Celek is the other active tight end.
The Eagles' inactives are Ertz, cornerback Ronald Darby, wide receiver Shelton Gibson, offensive tackle Taylor Hart, defensive end Steven Means, Elijah Qualls, Nate Sudfeld.
Running back Jay Ajayi is active after the team acquired him Tuesday. All five running backs will dress for Sunday's game — Ajayi, LeGarrette Blount, Wendell Smallwood, Corey Clement, Kenjon Barner could all see time.
Darby was questionable. but will likely be back from his dislocated ankle after the bye week. Patrick Robinson will continue seeing time in his place.
